SEO Blogging: Don’t Become a Bloggin’ Bully!
11.05.09
SEO Blogging opened a Pandora Box in the world of marketing. All of a sudden, everyone became an expert on EVERYTHING!
To be honest, I consider myself a rookie when it comes to marketing and SEO. The more I write about these subjects, the more I learn of all the steps needed to accomplish a positioning goal. There are no magic words, no easy road, nothing: you can’t beat the machine without some research and muscle work.
That means: No matter how hard I commit to learn an SEO method, there will always be a change/improvement/handicap that will make things a bit more defying. Challenges keep my creative juices flowing.
But, really… sometimes I feel worthless due to these online bullies out there.
A Crime with No Evidence
I can’t say I’m an expert. Like any human being, I’m prone to mistakes and I want to learn as much as I can.
However, the Internet spawned a new breed of quickly-evolved gurus. The information is out there, written in an easy-to-follow format. There are tutorials and reliable sources to learn anything.
This is the era of the self-made authorities.
However, there’s a huge difference between those who know, those who teach and those who rub your nose in your mistakes and hit you with a rolled-up newspaper.
Introducing the Bloggin’ Bully
The learning tools the Internet offers created a brand new of experts. Lots of motivation and interest made these people into eminences in different subjects. Some out there apply their knowledge to a specific area and profits from it. Some enjoy to teach and, as they share their experience, they try to broaden the view and add new conceptual tools to it.
But what really gets my gears grinding is the proliferation of a species: the Bloggin’ Bully:
- Self-appointed authorities on every single possible category of knowledge.
- Passive-aggressive critics: “Your article was a cute attempt to write about (insert subject here).”
- The kind of guy/girl that will ridicule you in front of his buddies to gain acceptance.
- Self-righteous bloggers that wear ALL of their merits/awards/titles at the same time.
- Bloggers that will use their posse to gang-attack your posts (”This guy sucks. Write him something nasty!”)
The same social abuse schemes used on High School, sadly, work online.
Fight for Your Rights!
We all are entitled to an opinion. However, there will always be a decent way to speak your mind.
If you’re a Blogger:
- Be humble and accept criticism in the best of ways. Humbleness is the biggest patience, the Buddhists say.
- If the comments have an abusive tone, ignore and delete. Don’t waste your time.
- Inform the authorities, development teams and viewers of recurrent situations. It’s not about picking fights.
If you’re a Visitor:
- Be polite. A blog is not that different from someone’s bedroom. Would you let anyone wreck your room?
- If you don’t agree with any of the points of the author, just say so! It’s your right. But always be willing to debate.
- If you definitely HATED what you read, move on. Maybe picking a fight is not worth the hassle.
Penny For Your Thoughts?
SEO Blogging spawned a bunch of devils: Black-Hat SEO criminal minds, Lil’ Know-it-alls, Goofy newcomers (like yours truly), and people that build their own soap boxes to stand in them and rant about imaginary threats. We all have a bit of them, just like we have positive features that keep us trying to expand the world of blogs.
Abuse is a horrible thing. Even online. Always remember that your rights end where other people right’s start.

Many of guys blog about this issue but you wrote down really true words.
Thank you. I’ve been there.
