How to Invest your Internet Marketing Budget?
01.05.10
2010 is just starting. Are you still rubbing the sleep away from your eyes or are you ready to start your Internet Marketing campaign?
We rush like little kids towards that precious budget with gleeful expectation, since… well… it’s brand new! We want to spend it in the flashiest of marketing tools we can think of. Every year starts with a dash of optimism.
But it’s time to slow down a little. Let’s face it: We cannot spend as much as we used to. Then again, the charm of Internet Marketing is, precisely, how little you need to invest in order to get results.
So, how to use that money wisely?
Make Up your Priorities.
Look, guys: as much as it is tempting to buy new gizmos and gadgets and try new stuff, you have to apply layers and layers of common sense. Otherwise, it would be worse than buying nothing but cookies and soda instead of groceries. Sure, it’d be awesome but… is it practical?
Before even thinking of your budget, think of the crucial points of your campaign. If you can’t pick the most important aspect for this year, then you have to go back to the drawing board.
A suggestion of priorities
- Hosting for our websites
- Technical upgrades and de-bugging of websites
- Online advertising (banners, landing pages and such)
- Online promotions (sales, discounts, packages and combos)
Setting the order of importance (from the most urgent to the least) gives away not only how much to spend but when. Some of these investments are huge, but can be spaced in a more comfortable way.
On revamping your website’s aspect
One of the biggest temptations is to completely change the aspect of your website. Sure, many companies invested tons on changing their corporate identity but, before you pimp your site, ask yourself this:
- Is the aspect or the navigability what I want to improve?
- Am I going to change my entire corporate image or am I just going to change the site?
- Is it necessary?
There is not an appropriate answer to these questions, but these should give you enough insight.
