Internet Marketing Mistakes: Not on 2010, pal…
12.09.09
2010 is the start of a new decade. A blatantly obvious statement, but it is time to consider some of the implications. People are waiting for changes (economical, social, cultural) after the last rough patches we’ve been through. Technology is becoming increasingly available and easy to implement. Most companies are changing their once-too-stiff approach in lieu of a more casual, friendlier language. This is no different when it comes to Internet Marketing Agencies.
In other words: the barrier that once divided corporate from social is growing thinner as we speak.
That change demands a strong commitment from companies and agencies. Bonds must grow tighter and constant exchange is key in order to reach your target audience in a more effective way.
So, with no further ado, here is a list of mistakes you can’t get away with next year. If you made them once, make sure you’re ready to ammend your mistakes.
1. You’re not collecting data from your customers and you’re not updating your data base constantly.
2. You still believe massive email marketing is nothing but spam with a fancy layout.
3. You are not creating means of conversion on your websites.
4. You are not keeping in touch with your Internet Marketing Agency and you’re not demanding progress reports from them.
5. You’re paying little or no attention to the strategies, targets and Search Engine rankings of your competition, nor taking note of their strengths/gaps.
6. While maybe you’ve paid attention to the afore mentioned critical points, you’re not creating long-term relations with your customers, offering little feedback nor offering them added value (contents of interest, downloads, free reports…)
7. You don’t have a Social Network profile strategy.
8. Your post-sales service is bland, impersonal, generic and is not creating new opportunities for new businesses.
9. Your contents either lack keywords or any kind of optimization (or, even worse, they completely lack any kind of interest or added value)
10. You have completely discarded PR work in favor of sales, sales, sales, sales and nothing but sales, giving your customers a vibe of despair and freaking them out.
There are many other things to point out and these are the ones I was able to come up with. Of course, the needs of each campaign differ (depending on goals, budget, target, approach…), but there are essential things that cannot be ignored. Internet Marketing campaigns can be as rewarding as you want them to. But, then again, you have to have every single base covered.
