Probably when you have been in the mall purchasing fruits and vegetables for the week, someone has offered you a portion of a cake. Just for tasting. That’s a freebie, something that you get for free; a gift that some companies give as a part of a marketing campaign.
The objective of freebie marketing is to crave people of a product or service to get a purchase. Also, the gift is given in exchange for filling out a form or a company’s survey. In a similar way, on the Internet, freebies are “articles of merchandise”, digital gifts, or ‘flyers’ with a special offer.
Let me explain: if you have a company of graphic design you can give people a free draw, wallpaper or a little GIF design for their MSN. But why are freebies a good strategy of Internet Marketing?
The answer is simple: Everything is made as a way to promote your site and for inviting people to visit it (it doesn’t’ matter if the visit is just for getting the gift). Also, you can request people to fill a form about what they think about your company or services you offer, that’s an invaluable way to get feedback from clients or potential customers.
Most of the time downloaded freebies are posted on blogs; so, it serves for attracting readers, get replays and opinions while you’re promoting your products.
Remember that ‘free’ is still a word with high resonance and an excellent hook for catching the attention of Internet users. Always, a free sample or a promotion is a good strategy.
Keep in mind that the product (in spite to be free) talks about your company; so:
- The gift has to have an excellent quality
- Related with your business (if you sell computers, don’t give dogs draws)
- Original and easy to download
- Offer different versions (of colors, sizes and formats)
- You should include your logo or companies’ name on the gift.
