Son of a…  I mean… Good Lord!  I think I just found my Internet Marketing’s Evil Twin and I’m baffled.  Maki (the mad genius behind doshdosh.com) just found a way to gather killer blogging, a deep view of marketing and cute pictures of Anime girls (the scoundrel!).  This makes me want to either step up on my game or hunt Maki so I can eat his brain and get his superpowers.

I know this is a rather… unusual start for my blog, but I think credit must be given where it’s due and, after months of reading lame techie stuff (that leads to automatic writing of lame techie stuff), this is one of the few blogs that made me say “this is evil… I like it!”.

Now, back to our regular schedule:  Want to know how to stomp on your competition?  Here’s how.

01.12.10

Marketing on the Internet is leveling up with customers in terms of language and expectations.  The economical climate and a new generation of aware consumers are tweaking the way advertisement works.

If you turn on the TV, you’ll notice that ads are a bit more low-profile than they used to be.  They feel a bit more like testimonials, almost as if they were talking with us (as opposed to “talking TO us”)

It’s time to return the white tigers to nature and get rid of the flashy clothing, guys.

Austere is the new black.

We rush like little kids towards that precious budget with gleeful expectation, since… well… it’s brand new!  We want to spend it in the flashiest of marketing tools we can think of.  Every year starts with a dash of optimism.

But it’s time to slow down a little.  Let’s face it:  We cannot spend as much as we used to.  Then again, the charm of Internet Marketing is, precisely, how little you need to invest in order to get results.

the future of internetIt’s the end.  Pack your things and turn off the lights: 2009 is soon to be over.  We will wake up in a new decade as we mock the silly hairdos and trends of this one.  Game over.  Thanks for playing.  So long, suckers.

We still don’t have flying cars nor vacations on the Moon.  Technology went back and forth in this decade.  There were sad moments that made us recoil and wonder about the worth of other people’s lives; there were moments of joy on which we felt closer to others.

It was quite a decade.  How’s it going to be for us marketers as soon as the countdown finishes?

Internet Marketing Mistakes: Not on 2010, pal…

12.09.09

internet marketing mistakes you cannot make on 20102010 is the start of a new decade.  A blatantly obvious statement, but it is time to consider some of the implications.  People are waiting for changes (economical, social, cultural) after the last rough patches we’ve been through.  Technology is becoming increasingly available and easy to implement.  Most companies are changing their once-too-stiff approach in lieu of a more casual, friendlier language. This is no different when it comes to Internet Marketing Agencies.

In other words:  the barrier that once divided corporate from social is growing thinner as we speak.

That change demands a strong commitment from companies and agencies.  Bonds must grow tighter and constant exchange is key in order to reach your target audience in a more effective way.

So, with no further ado, here is a list of mistakes you can’t get away with next year.  If you made them once, make sure you’re ready to ammend your mistakes.

11.16.09

Internet Marketing is not an exact science.  How can it be, considering the infinite variables and the always changing nature of the targets we aim for?  It’s always a process of educated guesses, good luck and statistics merged together as “that thing that works, yet we’re not sure how”.  That’s why, sometimes, the wise thing to do is follow your instincts in an organized demeanor.

internet marketing ethics“I am learning all the time.  The tombstone will be my diploma.”

(Eartha Kitt)

When it comes to Internet Marketing, I’m still a rookie.  There’s a lot I still have to learn.  Fortunately, the web designers in the company have been patient enough to teach me and show me how everything works.  It’s a lot of information for someone who still relies heavily on paper, pencil and a word processor to get the job done.  But I’m dealing and, what surprises me the most:  I’m learning.

Being humble is one of the toughest things to assume as a commitment.  Learning that you STILL have a lot to learn about anything (and, well… about everything) is not an easy task, but it is a really rewarding one.  It makes me happy to be able to share what I’ve learned while working for this company.

That’s exactly why I don’t like cocky techies.
